Who We Are In General The Singapore Sports School is a specialized independent school providing a conducive academic and training environment for teenagers aspiring to be sports athletes. Under the auspices of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports, the school was officially opened by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong on 2 April 2004. Today, the school boasts over 400 sports athletes who have benefited from the flexible academic setting, enabling them to balance their academic pursuits with intensive sports training. They reside five days a week on a sprawling seven-hectare campus that comes equipped with world-class sporting facilities. Students at sports school undergo a modular curriculum of study in specialized classrooms. The mode of study is tied closely to the syllabus of mainstream school and that which allows them the flexibility to compete at sports competition frequently without comprising their studies. Our sports athletes have been trail blazing the sports scene since the early days with our first hit at breaking a national record at the National Junior Championships 2004. Since then, we have broken 11 National Records, 29 National Age-Group Records, 12 National Schools Records, 21 School Championship Records and the U17 Triple Jump record at Birmingham Indoor Games 2006. The school is pleased to have produced some of Singapore’s top athletes who have represented Singapore at the international sports arena and won top accolades. Among them are three World Champions, two Asian Gold Medalists, one Commonwealth Games Gold Medalists, two SEA Games Gold Medalists, One World Youth Champion, three Asian Youth Champions and two National Champions. Our Vision To be recognised nationally and internationally as a premier sports school. Our School Logo Our school logo features a pair of orange and red wings. The pair of wings is a universal symbol of flight and is used to embody the soaring aspirations of our students. The symmetry of the wings denotes the striking balance between academic finesse and sporting excellence. The colour red signifies the passion and pride of our students and staff while orange represents their youthfulness and vigour. Outlined amidst the pair of wings is a trophy. The trophy symbolizes the School’s commitment towards providing our students with the environment and ample opportunities to help them fulfill their sporting potential and let their dreams take flight.
