National Art Gallery Singapore 2007 Website Intro
The National Art Gallery will be a civic and creative space, established for the enrichment, enjoyment, and engagement of Singaporeans and visitors from all over the world.
This architectural competition was organised by MICA, in association with the Singapore Institute of Architects.
The competition was conducted in two stages:

Ideas stage All interested competitors were required to submit an initial design ideas proposal. Participants were judged on their vision, concept and
task appreciation.
Entries at Stage I were kept anonymous and competitors’ identities were only revealed to the jury only after they were short-listed for the second stage.
The five finalists were:
Chan Sau Yan Associates in collaboration with Lekker Design (Singapore)
DP Architects (Singapore)
Ho + Hou Studio Architects (Taiwan)
Smart Design Studio (Australia)
Studio Milou Architecture (France)

Stage 2
Design development stage Shortlisted competitors will be required to further develop their initial concepts and demonstrate the workability of their proposals against a budget. Participants will be given a more detailed functional brief at
this time.
At the end of the two-stage competition, the jury selected three winners. The winners were in the following order:
First : Studio Milou Architecture from France, in collaboration with CPG Consultants from Singapore
Second : Ho + Hou Studio Architects from Taiwan, in collaboration with AEDAS Pte Ltd from Singapore
Third : Chan Sau Yan Associates in collaboration with Lekker Design Pte Ltd. Both firms are from Singapore
The jury’s decision and recommendations have been presented to MICA. Further testing of the technical and financial viability of the schemes will be taken into consideration before an architect is commissioned to design the National Art Gallery. Public feedback will also be considered for the realisation of the project.
The National Art Gallery is scheduled for completion in 2012.

With its Southeast Asian focus, the National Art Gallery aims to be accessible to its visitors and users, in physical, intellectual, cultural, social and virtual terms. The National Art Gallery will provide a regional cultural backdrop, broad interpretation framework for understanding Singapore’s culture and heritage in the context of visual arts development in the regional and international arts scene.
