So at work I’ve been tasked with game design and Flash design. At home, I decided to crack open Flash, and start hammering on some game design concepts that I’m not particularly familiar or comfortable working with.
A lot of you know me for the Pin-Ups series of games, which use a slide show/frame advance relationship to drive the different options. Or for my more action-based games, I used simple physics and mathematical constants to move the different objects around the screen. But the simple click/drag interface, let alone, anything having to do with a mouse? Not my cup of tea. The thing is, the Flash format is notoriously buggy with the mouse, especially when dragging is involved. The click/drag method experiences hitches when it overlaps other click/drag objects, or gets dragged off the screen.
Thus, in this game, I decided to hone my Flash scripting in a way that streamlines the click/drag interface, and hopefully overcomes a lot of obstacles others face when working with such things.
