By 1985, Challenger has expanded to a network of 6 retail stores, all located within the central business district (CBD) and the tourist belt. In 1986, Challenger grew rapidly to become Singapore largest and leading computer retailer with a combined size exceeding 10,000 square feet, with a chain of 14 retail stores. In 1991, FUNAN The IT Mall underwent a major retrofitting and refurbishing. Challenger took this opportunity to revamp its retail strategies by setting up its first pilot superstore of 5,000 square feet. In 1993, Challenger opened two more retail stores in the heart of the CBD, with a combined size of 2,800 square feet. In 1994, Challenger evolved into a superstore of 54,000 square feet at FUNAN The IT Mall, pioneering the large format IT megastore.
